Cherished numbers reform
cherished numbers have always been popular in the u.k. The industry was started by private companies and transfers were administered by the DVLA. Registration number were sourced from old vehicles and transfreed to the buyer’s car or motorcycle. The DVLA entered the market and started to sell unissued numbers which had not been used in the normal registration process. They sell the four formats of registration that have been used since 1903, namely ageless, suffix, prefix and newstyle. These all follow the rules of all registration numbers. It is now being proposed that cherished numbers should be outside this sytem and any combination should be made available to buy.
