Larry Could Quit Drinking if it Weren’t For His Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

“I really thought I was tough, but I am no match for the alcohol withdrawal symptoms I experience when I abruptly try to stop drinking.  If someone could just put me to sleep for a few days while my body goes through the alcohol withdrawal symptoms, I could get on with my life without alcohol.”  This statement was made my Larry while he was talking to a friend of his named Vern.  Vern actually knew a few things about addiction and so he told Larry that there is a type of treatment where a person is sedated so that he or she does not remember experiencing the withdrawal symptoms, but this form of treatment is for drug addiction and not for alcoholism.  Vern suggested that Larry go to his health care provider for an alcohol evaluation so that his drinking problem could be diagnosed and a recommendation could be made.
